When friends ask me, "How was your vacation?" how do I possibly summarize the last three amazing weeks? Maybe I should just say, "It was great!"
The longer answer would describe Seb's bad flight out to California, and the next day where I discovered that there are still honest people in this world. I would want to spend a long time describing the aesthetic experience of bouldering at Lake Tahoe, and hiking the Tahoe National Forest.
But this isn't just about me: a complete description of my vacation would have to include how ecstatic Seb was to jump off of the inflatable boat into the lake; how Nancy hosted an enjoyable Cuban-style dinner for my family; golfing with my Dad for the first time; and Mimi's 40th birthday.
Our vacation included reunions with old friends, running at 7000 feet, reminiscing about childhood vacations, live theater, and horseback riding. It encompassed fond farewells and exciting hellos. It included sailing, volcano climbing, and boating.
We heard sad news and scary news. We swam in a pool and surfed the Pacific.
Upon our return, somehow, "It was great!" simply seems insufficient.... It was the best vacation of my life.
