I have been cast in the Live Arts production of Metamorphoses! Woo-hoo!
The play is adapted from Ovid by Mary Zimmerman, and was a surprise hit on Broadway a few years ago. The action takes place in and around a pool built on the stage. In some scenes it is the ocean; in others, a reflecting pool. Here is a good synopsis.
Rehersals begin next month, and the show will be produced in March. I'm not sure what roles I will be playing yet, but the way the cast has been divided in the past is that each actor has one or two major roles and a handful of minor ones, so I expect that everyone will have a lot of stage time.
I'm a Charlottesville notable!
Nancy and I made the rounds at this month's First Friday's gallery showings. We always stop in at Les Yeux du Monde ("Eyes of the World") where our friend Lynn serves as gallery director. I have learned that she has a fantastic eye for art and have never been disappointed by the exhibits she brings in.
Anyway, a photographer was there snapping away. Suddenly, we are in the society pages, alongside such Charlottesville notables as the UVA President and Mayor of Charlottesville! Hmm, I guess I need to learn to play polo now. Good thing I don't have any daughters or I'd have to finance a cotillion :)

Welcome, winter
Winter arrived yesterday in the form of five inches of snow. The trees are absolutely beautiful: every twig on every branch is weighted down with white. I took this photo this morning at about 8 am. You can see the early morning light cutting through the mist and fog on the left. The kids were released from school early yesterday and have off today. I hope they take advantage of the play time: no more snow is expected this week, and with temperatures hovering in the mid-thirties I don't expect it will last long.
This storm stands in sharp contrast to last week, when temperatures in the 60s forced Wintergreen to shut down some of the trails that Alec and I had just been snowboarding on the previous weekend!
In other news, I am auditioning for a part in Metamorphoses tonight. Wish me luck!
