Just a spectator now

Last night I took Alec and Ethan to the dress rehersal for the show. Instead of them watching me perform, I needed to point out to them who I would have been. :(

The cast looked great, and the boys (especially Alec) enjoyed the show. Afterwards we hung out back stage with both casts, who presented me a very sweet "get well soon" card.

My ankle still feels like crap. The discoloration is on both sides of the ankle now and the swelling has moved outwards to the top of my foot and the bottom of my shin. My shin on the lower right side is very sore. I don't know enough about these types of injuries to know what would cause pain on my shin, but I'm beginning to wonder if I have a small fracture. I don't think the x-ray encompassed that area.

Big purple ankle

Well I guess I am improving. Today I drove myself to work and can hobble around on one crutch if I need to, although it is slower than two.

If you love the colors purple and blue, you should check out this photo of my ankle. I took it this morning :)

From Moment of Flight to Moment of Disaster

We had rehersal last night in the theater for the first time. It was very cool to see the first cast go through the piece with all of the lighting and music in place. Then it was my cast's turn. About halfway through it I was coming down off the stage-right wall and rolled my ankle badly. I tried to keep a "game face" on and slide off stage but the pain was debilitating. Everything stopped while I was tended to. The swelling and the pain were pretty bad so some of the Live Arts folks drove me to the hospital. (Thanks Jude and Heather!)

Fortunately, the x-rays showed no break. Unfortunately, the sprain is pretty severe, and will take 4-6 week to completely heal. Meanwhile, I am on crutches with no chance of performing.

All of this work was for nothing. I am absolutely crushed.

Seb's breakfast

This morning Seb ate 3/4 of a bagel, two slices of toast, a cup of milk, two servings of yoghurt, and a half bottle of cold medicine. Seems he can unscrew child-proof caps. Poison control says it most likely won't be a problem. Why doesn't that make me feel better?

Flight in Flash

Fellow cast member Laura has been designing a Flash animation of Moment of Flight. It's a work in progress, but still damn cool. It is a top-down view; the audience would be at the top of the screen.

Long rehersals

We went for four hours today. It is GREAT fun, but I had to ice down my shins and take a muscle relaxant for my lower back, which thankfully seems to be getting better. Nancy says it is my age, but I am taking a perverse pleasure in seeing the 20-somethings fall prey to the same maladies :)

Performance dates

I just found out in which performances I will be appearing. Yours truly will be on stage:
  • Saturday April 2 (8:00)
  • Tuesday April 5 (7:30)
  • Thursday April 7 (7:30)
  • Saturday April 9 (8:00)

Cool Parkour video

This is sweet. Someday I will get there. Maybe. Probably not.

"Moment of Flight"/Rope

A World Premiere Dance/Theater Event

April 1, 2005 - April 09, 2005
by Live Arts and Ground Zero
directed by Rob Petres, choreographer

Three ropes descend from the sky and the wordless trio who shimmy down speak volumes with their acrobatic bodies. A team of runners set off for the finish line and along the way, slip the bonds of gravity and take flight. In this world premiere pairing, created for Live Arts by Ground Zero Dance Company, two mid-air ballets unfold before your astonished eyes. Think Cirque de Soleil minus the French clowns, and plus an athletic grace usually seen only in Olympic settings. "Rope/Flight" will be seen only at Live Arts before setting off around the world-and you'll see it first!
